Hi Sir, I am a General category male candidate with Jeemain - 11478 (99.28) JEE Advanced CRL Rank 21,258. Residential Place: Mumbai, Maharashtra My branch preference is: 1. CSE 2. CSE specialization AIML DS etc 3. IT 4. ECE I would like guidance on preparing my JoSAA preference list. Could you please suggest: 1. The best IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs I can realistically get. 2. Whether I should prioritize branch or institute at my rank. 3. Good ECE options that may be better than lower-tier CSE options. And since I am living in Mumbai SPIT, VJTI and COEP is also good clg where I can get CSE branch should I consider this than ECE at NIT Thank you.
Ans: With your JEE Main rank of 11,478, getting core CSE at top NITs is unlikely, but you have strong options in elite national networks and top home-state colleges. Since your JEE Advanced rank is outside IIT core branch cutoffs, focus mainly on your JEE Main rank for JoSAA and MHT-CET counseling. Prioritize tech branches like CSE, IT, or ECE over non-circuit ones even if it means a lower-tier college, as this leads to better career prospects. Consider local Mumbai colleges like VJTI or SPIT, which offer top placements and exposure to Mumbai’s corporate scene, often better than mid-tier NITs. Good options through JoSAA include IIIT Gwalior (5-year B.Tech+M.Tech IT), IIIT Lucknow (IT), NIT Nagpur (ECE), NIT Jalandhar and Durgapur (ECE), and BIT Mesra (CSE). For MHT-CET, VJTI and SPIT offer great chances in IT and computer engineering, and COEP Pune is also strong for IT and EXTC. Your preference list should start with VJTI Mumbai for IT/Computer Engineering, then IIIT Gwalior, SPIT Mumbai, IIIT Lucknow, COEP Pune, NIT Nagpur, BIT Mesra, and finally NIT Durgapur or Jalandhar as solid fallback choices. All the Best for Your Prosperous Future!

Hyy i am getting cse at 24 lakh in manipal banglore and cse in vit chennai (category 5) what should i choose although fees is a little bit high for me for both clg( i have to take about 60-70 percent of education loan) but i am getting very bad colleges via josaa for cse but their fees are very very less , Some of them are like mizoram university, csvtu, iiit manipur, bit deoghar off campus, north eastern hill university shillong, national institute pf electronic and technology gorapkhpur uttar pradesh, central university jharkhand like these so what should i do. And getting mechanical in nit meghalaya, nit nagaland, nit manipur, assam university silchar, nit sikkim(avg chances) what should i do i am very confused. Can get mait, msit also maybe
Ans: Yasi, Since you’ll need a 60–70% education loan, taking on Rs.24 lakh debt for a new campus like MIT Bengaluru or an expensive seat at VIT Chennai is very risky and could leave you with too much debt compared to your income right after graduation. The best approach is to avoid both costly private colleges and lower-tier GFTIs with poor infrastructure, focusing instead on affordable options in major tech cities that offer good value. The recommended order is MAIT Delhi or MSIT Delhi (CSE/IT through IP University) first, then NIT Meghalaya (Mechanical), followed by Assam University Silchar or NIT Sikkim (Mechanical), then VIT Chennai (CSE, Category 5) or MIT Bengaluru (CSE), and finally Mizoram University, CSVTU, IIIT Manipur, and BIT Deoghar. Prioritize MAIT or MSIT Delhi for CSE/IT since they provide a strong computer science degree in a top city with manageable loans and lower financial risk. All the Best for Your Prosperous Future!

I got 98.12%ile in JEE Main 2026, AIR 15782 in JEE Advance 2026 and 241 marks in BITSAT 2026, MHT-CET result is awaited. What are the best college options I am looking at? Also, I would like a balanced college brand and branch meaning that both an extremely good branch in a lower ranked college or a very low branch in a top ranked college are unfavourable. A balanced approach of branch and brand is what I need.
Ans: Noted the contents of your question. You have not mentioned your MHT-CET expected marks. Anyway, please note the order of preference can be beginning from MHT-CET top options (COEP/VJTI) for high-demand computer science/IT branches (highly achievable based on your strong percentile trends), followed by BITS Hyderabad/Goa for high-tier core seats like electrical and electronics engineering (EEE) or mechanical engineering (reliably clearing the BITSAT 2025 closing scores of 239–243). Thirdly, you can target mid-tier NITs (NIT Durgapur/Kurukshetra) via your 98.12 percentile for electronics-focused lines (ECE), and lastly, mid-tier IITs (IIT ISM Dhanbad/Bhubaneswar) via JoSAA counseling for core fields like mechanical or aerospace engineering. This sequential preference structure completely prevents a brand-branch mismatch while keeping your admission probability exceptionally high. However, choose the branch based on your interest and prefer the branch over the institute. All the Best for Your Prosperous Future!
